The Students
The following students will be participating in the research activities and the deep-sea course. Some of these students, indicated by * (asterisk), are current or past NSF GK-12 fellows who teach marine science to elementary school students in the Bandon, Coos Bay, North Bend, Port Orford and Reedsport school districts in Oregon (National Science Foundation GK12 Grant Nos. 0338153 and 0638731). During the cruise, these graduate students will share their experiences with their elementary students back home by posting daily logs and answering questions posted by their students.
*Marley Jarvis (Ph.D. Student, Shanks Lab, University of Oregon) is interested in larval dispersal dynamics and marine reserve design.
* Maya Wolf (Ph.D. Student, Young lab, University of Oregon) works on parasitic copepods that live inside nudibranchs (sea slugs).
Paul Cziko, Ph.D. Student (Univ of Oregon)
*Paul Dunn (Ph.D. Student, Young lab, University of Oregon) works on nemerteans (ribbon worms) that parasitize Dungeness crabs.
Chris Kelble, Ph.D. Student (University of Miami)

* Greg Gavelis (M.S. Student, Maslakova lab, University of Oregon) is interested in the development of marine invertebrate larvae.
*Josh Lord (M.S. Student, Shanks lab, University of Oregon) works on the distribution, growth and reproduction of the gumboot chiton.
* Laurel Hiebert (M.S. Student, Maslakova Lab, University of Oregon) is interested in evolution and development of marine invertebrate larvae and studies patterning genes in nemertean (ribbon worm) larval development.
* Katie Bennett (M.S. Student, Shanks Lab, University of Oregon) studies deep sea larvae.
* Kira Treibergs (M.S. Student, Emlet lab, University of Oregon) is new to OIMB and is very excited to study the deep sea environment.
* Kristina Sawyer (M.S. Student, Young Lab, University of Oregon) is just starting her degree.
* Myndee McNeill (M.S. Student, Young Lab, University of Oregon) studies the behavior and reproductive ecology of tiny snails that live in the rocky intertidal.
* Zair Burris (M.S. Student, Shanks Lab, University of Oregon) studies sea spiders.
